In-house Training

Some churches may choose to run the BTS Foundations training. This sort of session would typically be run by a minister or BTS Rep. Before running a training session, there are a few things you need to do.

group (in-person) online training

In this format, the online training videos are shown in a group session at church, by an appointed organiser from within the church (eg. the BTS Rep) who facilitates group discussions.

  • Complete the latest course – Before you can facilitate the course, you must first have completed Foundations Training (2023 ed.) yourself. This means you have either attended a training session, or have completed the online training course.
  • Ensure you have the necessary facilities to run training. You’ll need a way to play some video and audio. The videos can be accessed directly from the website. You will need a stable internet connection. If your church does not have access to a stable internet connection, please contact the CPU.
  • Contact the team in advance to notify us that you’re running training. By giving 3 months advance notice, the CPU will be able to support you with the most up-to-date information relevant to training and assist you to promote your training event. Please also contact us if you require an updated copy of your church’s annual compliance list. You may use this information to identify leader who need to attend the BTS training session.
  • Print a training workbook for each attendee. Download and print the ENGLISH PDF or KOREAN PDF which print in a bold, easy-to-read font. Another option is to download and view the workbook online to refer to as you write notes in a separate notebook.
  • Follow the instructions on the Online Training webpage to work through the training videos.
  • Be aware that the training content discusses abuse which may distress some participants.

Trigger warnings are embedded in the training videos. If you feel that any potential participants will be unduly distressed by the content, a modified version of the BTS Training can be made available to them by contacting the CPU. It is recommended before you start the training to identify at least one male and one female who will be at the training session and can be approached for pastoral care if anyone is distressed by the training content and needs to speak to someone. People can also contact the CPU during business hours or Jericho Road Counselling Service via telephone on 1800 818 133 or via email at counselling@jerichoroad.org.au.

  • Make sure all participants sign an attendance register to record that they have completed the training. Make sure to write “Group Online Training” as the Facilitator at the top, along with the appointed organiser’s name.
  • Send a copy of the attendance register to cpu-training@pcnsw.org.au to ensure the training is recorded in the compliance list for your church. By sending the attendance register, your church is confirming that the listed individuals actively participated in the training session. You do not need to ask attendees to complete a quiz. If you would like a copy of the quiz to complete as a group to reinforce the content, contact the team for this.
  • Participants need to have completed a BTS Registration form to submit their WWCC details to the CPU prior to attending training. You can do this by completing Online BTS Registration Form, or via Hard Copy.

If possible, please bring a laptop to the training session and allow time at the end of the for anyone who needs to complete it online.

  • Provide training certificates to attendees upon request. Contact the team if you would like to use our official Statement of Completion template.

If you don’t have wifi or a strong internet connection, please contact us and we can provide you with the downloadable files.

Facilitated Group Training

In this format, the training session is delivered by an appointed person within the church (eg. the BTS Rep) who has current BTS Training and is suitably experienced in facilitating the course, using the course material supplied by the CPU.

Please contact the CPU at cpu-training@pcnsw.org.au for support and resources for your training session.

  • Complete the latest course – Before you can facilitate the course, you must first have completed Foundations Training (2023 ed.) yourself. This means you have either attended a training session, or have completed the online training course.
  • Obtain the training material from CPU – Contact the team for this. You must use the CPU-produced PowerPoint presentation along with the workbook.
  • Familiarise yourself with the content. You need to know what you’re talking about and may be asked some tricky questions during the training, so make sure you’ve got a good handle on the content.
  • Ensure you have the necessary facilities to run training. You’ll need a way to play some video and audio. There will be times where attendees will need to get into small groups to discuss, so ensure your space can accommodate that.
  • Print a training workbook for each attendee. Download and print the Standard PDF which prints in a bold, easy-to-read font. Another option is to download and view the workbook online to refer to as you write notes in a separate notebook.
