Auditing

The Auditing process is a way that the Conduct Protocol Unit can provide specific advice to congregations to help them meet their obligations under Breaking the Silence.

The Presbyterian church is fully committed to the best interests of the people under its care. One way this is enacted is through the Breaking the Silence policy and process, conducted by Jericho Road. BTS protocols provide our churches, Presbyteries, organisations and committees with a structure that ensures that the meet not only their legislative requirements but the additional obligations we have as followers of Christ to care for all the people in and around our organisation.

To ensure compliance of essential BTS protocols, churches are audited every 3 years by the Conduct Protocol Unit. This audit should encourage churches to critically review their people, places and practices.

To make the auditing process easier for churches, information and evidence of the adoption of BTS standards can now be submitted online. Each pastoral charge (church) and organisation will also receive a site visit from our Compliance and Auditing Manager.

This visit will provide an opportunity to discuss any safe ministry issues in person and ensure BTS protocols are being adopted at a foundational level. Good implementation of these protocols need to be cultivating a culture of safe practice in all ministry activities – not something seen as merely a ‘box ticking’ exercise. The Audit process allows up to six months to address any practices that do not meet audit requirements and receive BTS endorsement.

The CPU wants to support you in ongoing safe ministry practices for both leaders and the people to whom they minister.
